Bratch Test

We are moored just past Bratch tonight having negotiated the famous lock. Here Joe is fitting the covers for the houdini hatches before we all settle down for the night.
Yesterday we stayed put because of the weather; rain, hailstones and snow and a pub close by. Well what could one do, it would have been foolish to venture out in such awful weather with our guests so we availed ourselves of the hospitality of the Navigation Inn at Greensforge for lunch AND dinner. Here is guest,Danny 'the Gnome', enjoying the ambiance of the local pub.
Apparently the guest bed IS comfortable which is good news for all our potential guests!
This morning we awoke to a crisp sunny day and set off after a cooked breakfast towards Wombourne where our first guests left us to return home to Colchester.
Lessons to be learnt:
A) Secure new stainless steel chimney - or you will lose it in the cut
We will be calling in the Limekiln Chandlers for a replacement tomorrow - bugger!!!

Boat looks gorgeous on the photos. Where are the battle scars?

You are not alone in having a chimney go awol. On our first outing on our previous share boat, Dragonfly the chimney had a low flying tree experience. We were not the first or last co-owners to do that so there after we drove around with a bulk baked bean can over the chimney hole and the chimney proper looking pretty inside. Indigo Dream has no chimney!

Ooooohhhh, you are learning a lot aren't you? What about the really essential lesson: training husband to always make the tea?

Hi Lesley

Glad that you are getting used to living aboard. Can you tell me - do the Houdini hatch covers actually work at keeping the condensation down to a minimum? In other words, do you have any puddles on the floor in the morning?

It took me three chimney's before I learned my lesson. I now have the coolie hat chained to the chimney and both to the boat.

Yes I have discovered that they don't float.

Due to an error on my part (never hurry a decision you put that there for a reason in the first place!) I will now have a chimney on both sides of the boat. The stove is still on the 'correct' side of the boat but the envirolet loo has moved over to the wrong side. This of course means that at no time will I be safe from chimney knocking.

They will both have serious chains attached!!

How are the lights? When will you be near Fradley?

Lights are just fine and use sooo little power. I will e-mail when we are near Fradley but expect mid to late next week.

The houdini hatch covers do help to reduce the condesation - no puddles in the morning!

jane found that not all bridges are so easy to go through as the top box had an argument with a bridge just outside Stone and the bridge won!
